The number of crime incidents in Austin saw an overall increase last month, after a previous decrease, according to data from CrimeoMeter. Incidents increased to 7,873 for Mar-2022 up from 6,889 for Feb-2022 (+14.3% change).
The offenses that increased the most were drug/narcotic violations and aggravated assault. Drug/narcotic violations increased to 225 incidents last month, from 148 the month before (+52.0% change). Aggravated assault went from 610 to 763 (+25.1% change).
There was also an increase in motor vehicle theft, from 431 incidents to 511 (+18.6% change), and in shoplifting, from 108 to 127 incidents (+17.6% change).
Among the few types of offenses that saw a decrease last month, reports of theft from motor vehicle went from 801 to 753 (-6.0% change). Incidents of burglary decreased from 421 to 418 (-0.7% change).
