Crime decreasing in Chicago: What's the latest in the trend? - Jan ‘25

The number of crime incidents in Chicago saw an overall decrease last month, after a previous decrease, according to data from CrimeoMeter. Incidents fell to 17,378 for Jan-2025 down from 18,756 for Dec-2024 (-7.3% change).

The offenses that decreased the most were Robbery and Destruction/Damage/Vandalism of Property. Robbery fell to 562 incidents last month, from 707 the month before. (-20.5% change). Destruction/Damage/Vandalism of Property went from 2,155 to 1,763 (-18.2% change).


Among the types of offenses that saw an uptick last month, reports of Drug/Narcotic Violations went from 522 to 761 incidents (+45.8% change). Incidents of Shoplifting rose from 1,019 to 1,145 incidents (+12.4% change).
