Crime going down in Austin: What's the latest in the trend? - Sep ‘24


The number of crime incidents in Austin saw an overall decrease last month, after a previous decrease, according to data from CrimeoMeter. Incidents fell to 6,164 for Sep-2024 down from 6,714 for Aug-2024 (-8.2% change).

The offenses that decreased the most were Theft From Motor Vehicle and Motor Vehicle Theft. Theft From Motor Vehicle fell to 497 incidents last month, from 680 the month before. (-26.9% change). Motor Vehicle Theft went from 497 to 371 (-25.4% change).


Among the types of offenses that saw an uptick last month, reports of Robbery went from 77 to 85 incidents (+10.4% change). Incidents of Drug/Narcotic Violations rose from 282 to 289 incidents (+2.5% change).
