The number of crime incidents in Seattle saw an overall decrease last month, after a previous rise, according to data from CrimeoMeter. Incidents fell to 5,640 for Aug-2023 down from 5,759 for Jul-2023 (-2.1% change).
The offenses that decreased the most were Shoplifting and Theft From Motor Vehicle. Shoplifting fell to 222 incidents last month, from 263 the month before. (-15.6% change). Theft From Motor Vehicle went from 595 to 526 (-11.6% change).
Among the types of offenses that saw an uptick last month, reports of Drug/Narcotic Violations went from 17 to 30 incidents (+76.5% change). Incidents of Motor Vehicle Theft rose from 964 to 1,095 incidents (+13.6% change). Robbery went up from 133 to 149 incidents (+12% change).
