The number of crime incidents in Chicago saw an overall decrease last month, after a previous decrease, according to data from CrimeoMeter. Incidents fell to 21,870 for Sep-2023 down from 23,852 for Aug-2023 (-8.3% change).
The offenses that decreased the most were Shoplifting and Motor Vehicle Theft. Shoplifting fell to 718 incidents last month, from 862 the month before. (-16.7% change). Motor Vehicle Theft went from 2,656 to 2,342 (-11.8% change).
