Indianapolis crime trending up: What's the latest in the trend? - Jun ‘22



The number of crime incidents in Indianapolis, IN saw an overall increase last month, after a previous decrease, according to data from CrimeoMeter. Incidents increased to 40,632 for May-2022 down from 36,384 for Apr-2022 (+11.7% change).


The offenses that increased the most were suspicious activity and aggravated assault. Suspicious activity increased to 1,068 incidents last month, from 873 the month before (+22.3% change). Aggravated assault went from 250 to 303 (+21.2% change).


There was also an increase in vandalism, from 1,138 incidents to 1,367 (+20.1% change), and in simple assault, from 1,096 to 1,298 incidents (+18.4% change).


The offenses that decreased the most were robbery and drug/narcotic violations. Robbery fell to 211 incidents last month, from 218 the month before (-3.2% change) .There was also a decrease in drug/narcotic violations, from 706 incidents to 681 (-3.5% change).
